BabelOn-line: the story so far

Babelon-line was founded in London in 1999 to help the nascent dotcom industry to translate websites, directly on file.

During the next two decades, we supplied quality translations to countless businesses, media and advertising agencies. We have covered just about any topic or language combination.

Since 2019, we also work more closely with academia and e-learning sectors.

Philosophy

The translation industry is becoming commoditised: to increase their margins, large agencies tend to assign their projects to the lowest freelance bidder, regardless of qualifications.

Babelon-line reverses this logic. All our linguists are motivated, qualified translators who take pride in their work. We pick a specialist for each topic and make sure that we provide valuable feedback to our client.

We regularly check our prices against competition and find that we are very competitive. We manage this by using a cutting-edge SaaS translation platform and by leveraging our decentralised WFH structure.

The technology

We use a cutting-edge SaaS (Memsource, a secured translation platform), creating our own translation memories as we go – this allows work teams to maintain a consistent terminology, but also allows us to reuse sentences that were translated already in the past (yes, this means discounts for you!).

This platform can also speed the process up by suggesting translations – its AI uses 6 translation engines and preselects the best output.
