About project

Period: 2021-2022

Client: Business School / E-learning development

Subject: Large e-learning course translation, project management

I undertook a substantial project involving the translation of content for two e-learning courses commissioned by a business school (EM Normandie). The translation was from French into English, covering course modules on Economics and International Trade. This extensive project encompassed a total of 200,000 words, delving into a specialized subject. The files were a mix of InDesign, XML, Word, and included image.

My Task Was

In this particular case, my responsibilities included quoting the project, assembling a qualified team for translating the specialized content into English, and overseeing project management. Given the project’s extensive scale, diverse components, and the need for efficient timeframe and delivery management, precise coordination was crucial.

Process

The two e-learning modules consisted of hundreds of shorter files, varying in nature, including differences in content complexity and format types. The primary challenge was to organize and allocate these files to skilled French-English translators, address queries from the client, and maintain overall consistency throughout the project.

  • Creating and maintaining bespoke glossaries for module (Economics and International Trade), ensuring adherence to the house style
  • Helping translators to resolve queries with client and researching complex terms
  • Using our translation platform, ensuring that answer to queries and best practices were communicated to te team of remote translators (see how this was done using my  AI translation SaaS)
  • Version follow-up: making sure that client answers to queries were taken on board project-wide
  • Resolving technical issues around some complex formats (e.g. xml)

Result

Both modules were delivered in a ‘ready-to-use’ state, requiring no further corrections or amendments.

  • Over 200,000 words translated
  • Hundreds of files delivered on time
  • Acquiring an in-depth understanding of complex e-learning courses

Conclusion

The project presented complexity in terms of timeframe, extensive word count, specialized topics, and diverse file formats. I successfully navigated these challenges thanks to an exceptional team of translators and the utilization of an excellent translation platform.
